How I got here
I am a Reader working in Theoretical Physics at the Department of Mathematics of City, University of London. I have worked at City since March 2005. Before joining City I was a postdoctoral researcher at the École Normale Superiéure de Lyon (France) (2004-5) and at the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) (2001-3). I have a PhD, MSc and BSc in Theoretical Physics, which I carried out at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) (1993-2001) under the supervision of Prof. José Luis Miramontes Antas. Part of my PhD was carried out at the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Fring.

My Research
I am a theoretical physicist working in Quantum Field Theory (QFT). I specialise on the study of integrable 1+1-dimensional QFTs and other closely related theories, such as statistical models, conformal field theories and integrable quantum spin chains.

My main areas of focus and some of my main contributions are:
- Bootstrap Program in Integrable Quantum Field theory: my focus is on the Form Factor Program and the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz approach. At the beginning of my career, I did much of my work in these areas in collaboration with Andreas Fring, now also at City.
- Form Factors in Quantum Spin Chains: For a short time in 2004 I worked on the algebraic Bethe ansatz approach to form factors in the XXX spin chain in the very general setup of generic spin representations at each site. This work was done in collaboration with Jean-Michel Maillet.
- Entanglement Measures in Integrable Quantum Field Theory: Since 2007 my research has centered around applying the form factor programme, to the study of entanglement measures in 1+1-dimensional QFTs and quantum spin chains by employing branch point twist fields. In this context I have worked on many models and types of measures as well as different kinds of states (ie ground/excited states). Currently, my main focus is on symmetry-resolved entanglement. This work was done in collaboration with Benjamin Doyon and John Cardy.
- Out-of-Equilibrium Dynamics in Many-Body Quantum Systems: In 2016 we applied a generalisation of the TBA approach, together with hydrodynamic principles, to the description of current and density averages after a non-homogenous quantum quench. The resulting approach is known as Generalised Hydrodynamics. This work was done in collaboration with Benjamin Doyon and Takato Yoshimura.
- Dynamics of Entanglement: In 2019 branch point twist fields were used for the first time to study the dynamics of entanglement following a global quench. This work was done in collaboration with Jacopo Viti, István Szécsényi and Maté Lencsés.
- Out-of-Equilibrium Dynamics in the Presence of Unstable Particles: In 2020 we started working on a project focused on investigating the signatures of unstable particles on hydrodynamic quantities in different out-of-equilbrium set-ups. This work was carried out in collaboration with Benjamin Doyon, Cecilia De Fazio, Francesco Ravanini and Aleksandra A. Ziółkowska.
- Integrable Quantum Field Theories Perturbed by Irrelevant Operators: In 2023 we proposed a form factor program for the matrix elements of operators in generalised TTbar perturbed integrable quantum field theories. This provides a new tool for the study of the RG and UV properties of this models. This work was done in collaboration with Stefano Negro and Fabio Sailis.

My Teaching/Supervision/Service
I have taught modules in all three years of our BSc programmes: Functions, Vectors and Calculus, Programming, Number Theory and Cryptography, Multivariable Calculus, Dynamical Systems and Complex Analysis. I have also supervised many final year BSc projects.
I have supervised three PhD students to completion and co-supervised three MSc students. I have two current PhD students and have worked with four visiting PhD students, leading to common publications in all cases.
I have been Admissions Tutor for Mathematics (2009-2012) and Programme Director for Mathematics (2012-16). I am currently the Deputy Programme Director.
